Attorney Melissa Alden is an experienced attorney dedicated to helping individuals and families make the very best legal decisions. Her practice focuses on Family Law. She has developed lifelong relationships with her clients, serving as a trusted advisor to them and their families by helping them to preserve and protect their assets, loved ones, and legacies.

Attorney Alden is actively involved in the Cape Cod community and focuses her volunteer efforts on the Independence House of Cape Cod; advocating for victims of abuse. She is also a frequent participant in the Barnstable County Probate Courthouse ‘lawyer of the day’ program; availing her services to those in need on a walk-in basis at the probate and family courthouse. Attorney Alden regularly takes on Pro Bono clients through Southcoast Legal Services, the Volunteer Lawyer’s Project, and the Women’s Bar Foundation. She has been the recipient of the First Justice Award for Pro Bono Excellence since 2013 and was also recognized twice for her community service while serving the Town of Yarmouth as a Police Officer.

Attorney Alden earned her law degree at Southern New England School of Law in 2008 and has been a member of the Massachusetts Bar as well as the U.S. District Court of Massachusetts since 2009. She completed her LL.M in Elder Law and Estate Planning through Western New England School of Law. She has been certified for the Mental Health Panel and CAFL Panel certified through Court Appointed Public Counsel (C.P.C.S.). Attorney Alden is also certified by the Probate and Family Court Administrative Offices to handle Guardian ad Litem, Guardianship of Minor and Incapacitated Persons, Special Master, and Counsel for Servicemen appointments.

Attorney Alden has been a member of the Cape Cod Elder Abuse Awareness Committee since 2017, she has been actively involved in the mentor/mentee program through Cape Cod Young Professionals, and has served as Vice-President of the Massachusetts Association of Women in Law Enforcement for the past two terms.

In 2007 Attorney Alden graduated from the Weymouth Police Academy and served as a Police Officer for the Town of Yarmouth until September 2017. She had the privilege of serving as the representative of Yarmouth on the Domestic Violence High-Risk Task Force. She was proud to participate in many of the community programs as an officer including Crime Watch, Code Enforcement, Bigs in Blue, National Night Out, White Ribbon Day, Special Olympics, Yarmouth Fill-A-Cruiser, Proactive Anti-Crime Unit, and as a member of the Crisis Intervention Team (CIT). Attorney Alden was the Domestic Violence Officer for many years which gave her the opportunity to learn the effects of Domestic Violence on the Victims and their Families. She is highly-trained in the area of Domestic Violence and has many years of experience in the investigation and prosecution of these crimes. Attorney Alden stays involved in this field by teaching for the Municipal Police Training Counsel for the Veteran Officers In-Service as well as contract instruction for Hanrahan Consulting, L.L.C.

Attorney Alden is also a member of Massachusetts Bar Association; Barnstable Bar Association; National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys; Massachusetts Association of Women in Law Enforcement; Community Institute Leadership Class of 2017 and a certified SHINE Counselor.
